New: Tiny PS2! World of Warcraft..

Two versions of the PS2
One of these things is not like the other one..
One of these things is not quite the same..

Another major revamp has been performed on our beloved black brick. I just offed my SPH-5000 (the yellow plus mark one). No doubt it will end up being the one that collectors and modders want. The new features are:
  1. It is dead SILENT! If you put your ear nearby there are tiny disk spin noises. WOW!
  2. Built in networking, no more funky black thing out the back.
  3. The playback of DVD-RW is well supported.
  4. Progressive scan mode is supported. Heavenly crisp.
  5. It seems the 4x rewind and Fast Forward got the cut from this one?
  6. IR (Infra Red) port is built in. No more clunky adaptor things to stick in the controller port!
  7. Did I mention Tiny? It is barely bigger than a standard DVD case.
  8. The firewire port is gone. No one used it anyway.
  9. No hard drive support, and those Y-Port adaptors for controller taps don't fit.
  10. The price has not gone up. Now 149.00 for all this yummy cake.

It is so light now, that tugging on the controller will probably bring it to the floor right away, better tape it down. I bet car system installers will love the tiny fingerprint of the thing.

I decided to download Worlds of Warcraft open beta to see if the game is cool enough to buy the collectors edition or not. YIKES 2.5 gigs! On 256 DSL that is about 48 hours d/l time. Why? They share what you have downloaded using a peer to peer system. Total traffic and bandwidth consumed = 5.78 gigs. I have had really good luck with collectors editions holding their value a bit better than normals, but only on the really good games.

Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal has beaten Rayman 2(Dreamcast) and Jak Precursor Legacy for my favorite platformer ever. The Quark 2-D side scrolling levels clinched it. Jak 2 was horrible dark errand boy driving, Spyro tripped in the conversion from PSX to PS2 and became clunky drunky in controls.

Up Your Arsenal brings back style and fun. I love the banter that goes on over the ship intercom, or from the green soldier robots. There is an option to bring guns from past game saves also, but alas it surprised me. I had brought the original Ratchet save into Going Commando, so i deleted the original saves thinking they would progress linearly. NOT SO! Arsenal wants the original save AND the Going Commando save. Sigh. Platforming heaven though.
